Iraq..The beginning of the withdrawal of demonstrators from Tahrir Square in Baghdad..and new demonstrations in Nasiriyah and Najaf

On the third anniversary of the October 1st 2019 (October Revolution) demonstrations, the demonstrators in Al-Nisour Square in the heart of the Iraqi capital, Baghdad, started to disperse as security forces were stationed in the demonstration zones to keep them safe.

Additionally, according to the Iraqi News Agency (INA), the demonstrators recited a declaration at the conclusion of their protest that included demands such as the need to stop quotas and corruption, identify the assassins of the protesters, and reject the idea of building consensual governments.
The protesters affirmed that, if their demands were not satisfied, they would return to Nisour Square on October 25.

Today, the third anniversary of the October Revolution, saw the start of large-scale protests in Al-Haboubi Square in the heart of Nasiriyah in the Iraqi “Dhi Qar” governorate (southeast of the country).
The marchers called for the removal of quotas, the prosecution of corrupt officials, and an improvement in services.

In remembrance of the (October 2019) revolution, popular demonstrations were launched today in the Najaf Governorate from the twentieth revolution towards Al-Sadryn Square. Protesters shouted slogans demanding the eradication of corruption and political quotas as well as the fulfilment of legitimate demands.

Lieutenant-General Ahmed Salim, the Baghdad Operations Commander, affirmed in a statement that the operation to secure the protesters is moving along as planned and that there are no plans to cut other bridges, while also saying that there is no basis for imposing a curfew.

While acknowledging that there were minor injuries, Selim claimed that there was conflict with a portion of the protesters in Tahrir Square and that it is likely that there were infiltrators who attempted to incite the riot. He also stated that “the forces charged with protecting the demonstrators are committed to restraint to avoid injuries among the demonstrators.”
