Al-Madina News: The Directorate of Civil Defense in Iraq reported that a residential structure collapsed today, Saturday, in the Karrada neighbourhood in the heart of the capital, Baghdad, resulting in deaths and injuries.
Thirteen individuals were rescued by civil defence personnel, according to a statement from the directorate, and activities to find people still trapped under the rubble are ongoing.
She continued by saying that closing off roads made it difficult for specialised personnel to reach the location of the collapsed structure.
About 18 civilians were inside the building when it fell this morning, according to Defense Director Kazem Bohan; 13 of them have so far been rescued, and the hunt for other survivors continues. He continued by stating that the 4-story structure had entirely collapsed.
There have been no casualties to date, according to Jawdat Abdel Rahman, director of media for Iraqi Civil Defense, and the accident’s causes are still unknown.
