127 people were killed in a riot at a soccer match in the Indonesian league

Police reported that at least 127 people were murdered when they used tear gas to quell a disturbance in East Java province following a match of the Indonesian First Division.
According to prefectural police commander Niko Aventa, the majority of the fatalities perished from a lack of oxygen during a stampede after supporters flooded the pitch at Kanjuruhan Stadium as hosts Arima Malang fell 3-2 to Persibaya Surabaya, their rival in East Java.

Arima Club won’t host any other matches for the remainder of the season after the Indonesian Football Association announced a weeklong match suspension following the event.
