According to Sky News Arabia, the Lebanese presidency announced today, Saturday, that President Michel Aoun has received a letter from the American mediator concerning the demarcation of the maritime border with Israel.
The Security Council members reiterated their “strong support for Lebanon’s stability, security, territorial integrity, sovereignty, and political independence, in accordance with Security Council resolutions and statements by the President of the Security Council regarding the situation in Lebanon” in a statement, calling on the Lebanese government to “implement known, necessary, and tangible reforms quickly and transparently.”
“These reforms are necessary to address the immediate demands and genuine aspirations of the Lebanese people regarding the severe security, economic, social, and humanitarian crises facing the country, they emphasised.
The members stressed the need for “a rapid, independent, impartial, comprehensive and transparent investigation into the two explosions that shook Beirut on 4 August 2020,” emphasising the significance of holding free, fair, and inclusive elections in 2022 transparently and in accordance with the planned timeline, in a manner that ensures the full, equal, and meaningful participation of women as candidates and voters in the elections.
