Residents of Kingston, Tyendinaga Mohawk Territory mark Truth and Reconciliation Day

Truth and Reconciliation Day celebrations took place all around Canada on a sombre day of contemplation for the Indigenous population.
People in Kingston began commemorating the day early.

The Kingston Police Station served as the beginning point of the morning’s Truth and Reconciliation Walk, which made its way to several locations around the city.
Everyone who took part wore an orange shirt, walked, talked, and shared their opinions about the enduring effects of colonialism, particularly Canada’s system of residential schools.
In Tyendinaga Mohawk Territory, further down the route, the local indigenous population staged their own walk.
