North Korea reportedly fired suspected ballistic missiles on Saturday, according to the Japan Coast Guard, which cited the Defense Ministry. This was Pyongyang’s fourth operation in a week since the beginning of the escalation of tension on the peninsula.
At least two rockets were launched from North Korea, according to the coast guard of Japan.
The two projectiles’ paths ended outside of Japan’s exclusive economic zone, according to a government source cited by the Japanese public broadcaster NHK.
In response, the Armed Forces of South Korea’s Joint Chiefs of Staff have verified that their northern neighbour launched a ballistic missile on Saturday toward their east coast.
It is significant that the missile launch occurred after the biggest joint military drills between the US and South Korea in almost 5 years, as well as following US Vice President Kamla Harris’ visit to Seoul this week.
