Michels calls for replacing Green Bay prison

Wisconsin’s ALLOUEZ (WBAY) – Republicans are putting out a plan that will cost $350 million to tear down and rebuild the Green Bay Correctional Institution. If Tim Michels wins the governor’s race, that is.
Speaking Friday in Allouez from across the street from the prison, Michels promised to approve the scheme right now.
A developer would buy the current land for around a third of the price.
In 1897, the prison was constructed. According to Michels, it is crowded and out of date.

“The Green Bay region needs a new facility. This facility has served its purpose. What would a brand-new building look like? 1,500 prisoners will be housed at a new facility. That represents a 40%–50% increase, according to Michels.
Michels promises that the new prison will be built in Northeast Wisconsin, but he will leave it up to the local government to choose the best location.
In the November election, Michels will run against Tony Evers, the current governor.
