European Union: We will not recognize Russia’s annexation of Ukrainian territory

In front of the Commission headquarters is a flag of the European Union.
Leaders of the European Union declared on Friday that they would “never acknowledge” Russia’s illegitimate annexation of four more regions of Ukraine, charging that the Russian government was threatening international security.
This is in response to Russian President Vladimir Putin’s declaration that Zaporozhye, Kherson, Donetsk, and Luhansk, in Ukraine, will join the Russian Federation, claiming that “the people made their decision in the referendum.

The leaders of the 27 nations issued a statement saying, “We firmly reject and categorically condemn Russia’s illegitimate annexation of Ukraine’s Donetsk, Luhansk, Zaporizhia, and Kherson regions.

The UN Security Council is slated to vote on a draught resolution denouncing the “referendums” to annex multiple Ukrainian areas on Friday. However, the French chair of the council announced on Thursday night that the proposal has little chance of passing due to the veto from Russia.

The annexation of Ukrainian land by Russia will not be recognised by the European Union.
