In a phone conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan emphasised the necessity for additional talks with Ukraine and said that Turkey is prepared to serve as a mediator between the two nations.

“President Erdogan said that steps are needed to reduce tensions in order to open the door for more positive developments, and that Russia is expected to take steps to facilitate this process, especially regarding the issue of the annexation of some regions of Ukraine to Russia,” the Turkish presidency added.


“Turkish President Erdogan emphasised that Turkey is ready to play the role of mediator in this process,” she continued. “President Erdogan asked Russian President Putin to give negotiations another chance. The Kremlin acknowledged that Putin had informed Erdogan about the outcomes of the popular Donetsk, Lugansk, Kherson, and Zaporozhye referendums on joining Russia that were held from September 23 to September 27.
