The family of the young Kurdish woman, Mahsa Amini, provided additional information about the incident after the fire gained notoriety and generated indignation both inside and outside of Iran.
The young woman’s devastated family revealed that after she was arrested in the Iranian capital for loosely donning the veil, her family and friends desperately tried to locate her. However, they were unsuccessful.
According to what was reported by the Associated Press, her cousin Irfan Murtada, who resides in Iraq, stated that all of her family members attempted to arrange a visitation with her during those crucial hours but were unable.
He added that up until the family learned of her passing on September 16, the authorities had prohibited them from contacting her.
He emphasised that Mahsa Amini has turned into “a symbol of standing up to injustice and oppression,” stating that a witness has confirmed to the family that Mahsa Amini was physically assaulted while in custody.

It is significant that Mahsa Amini, who was born in the Kurdish city of Saqqaz in northwest Iran, passed away on September 16—three days after being detained by the “morality police” and then sent to a hospital in the capital, Tehran.
The family was not given information about their daughter’s condition by the doctors, and no one was allowed to examine a CT scan of her.
The young woman’s death incited outrage in the nation over a number of issues, such as limitations on individual freedoms and stringent regulations regarding women’s attire, as well as the living and economic crisis that Iranians were going through, not to mention the strict rules imposed by the regime and its political system in general.
