Taliban official: Blast in Shiite area of Kabul kills 19

According to a Taliban-appointed spokesman for the Kabul police commander, a suicide bomber targeted an education centre in a Shiite neighbourhood of the Afghan capital today, killing 19 people and injuring 27 others.
According to the spokesperson, Khalid Zadran, the explosion within the centre in Kabul’s Dashti Barchi neighbourhood happened early in the day. In the early aftermath of the blast, he lacked additional information.
The bombing was the most recent act of constant bloodshed since the Taliban took control.

The attack in the region, which is primarily populated by members of Afghanistan’s minority Shiite group, was not immediately assigned a cause.
The Hazara population has already been targeted by the Islamic State organisation, which has been the Taliban’s main foe since their takeover of Afghanistan in August 2021, notably in Dashti Barchi.

A Taliban-appointed spokesman for the Interior Ministry, Abdul Nafi Takor, had stated that “our teams have sent at the location of the blast to find out additional facts.”
