Coin portrait of King Charles III unveiled

Following the formal time of mourning for his mother, Queen Elizabeth II, the official coinage picture of King Charles III was released today.
The King’s portrait, which was produced by British sculptor Martin Jennings, will initially appear on a special £5 Crown and 50 pence coin honouring the life and legacy of the Queen, according to the Royal Mint, the country’s official coin-maker for more than a century.

King Charles III, by the Grace of God, King, Defender of the Faith, is depicted on the coins facing left, the opposite of Queen Elizabeth II, according to Kevin Clancy, director of The Royal Mint Museum, who also provided the Latin inscription that reads “Charles III, by the Grace of God, King, Defender of the Faith” around the King’s head.
The public release of the coins, according to Clancy, represents a significant turning point in the transfer from the late Queen to the new King.

This is yet another crucial stage in creating the new reign’s identity, he said.
