“Alumni Club” .. a Houthi tool to suppress and restrict students

The so-called “graduate club” of the Houthi militia, which was recently founded in colleges and government and private institutes, was the subject of irate tweets and “hashtags” on social media sites in Yemen.
The Houthi security and intelligence agency funds the “club,” which has complete authority to stifle student liberties, steal their money under duress, and inflict pressures accompanied by arbitrary campaigns.

A stringent rule was made by this organisation that required students to pay money for hosting graduation ceremonies with a sectarian undertone and placed restrictions on their choice of attire, photos, music, and joyful expressions in the concert’s programmes and paragraphs.

The academic community, the educational process, and higher education have all become occupations of the Houthis’ power, according to the internet, which has eliminated unnecessary and ignorant tools with security backgrounds.
They continued by saying that the militia had forced members into all of the university’s faculties, branches, and joints.
According to the same sources, “the Houthi militia’s Alumni Club has engaged in coercive and reactionary activities targeting university graduates.

“He forced his will and interfered in the small aspects of the graduation ceremonies, choosing the genre of songs and musical passages to the colour of the graduates’ nail polish.
Even while they affected both sexes, the infractions were more severe against females. University graduate Arwa Amer stated to Al Arabiya.net that “The Alumni Club disapproves of graduation ceremonies taking place before the abaya’s length, colour, and shoe style had been examined.

She emphasised that “they outlawed exposing shoes, and even erased the grads’ faces and hands in the graduation pictures.
She said, “The Houthi organisation naively reproduces the Iranian experience and imposes a new identity on the Yemeni people,” as did her colleague Ali Al-Salmi.
Documents containing the guidelines issued by the “club” for university students who graduated and desired to host a graduation celebration were distributed by students, community activists, and influencers.

Yemeni influencer Abdul Rahman Al-Nuwaira verified these unnecessary offences against the student community and Yemeni culture and values in a video clip. They included arbitrary directives to steal the delight of graduates.
It is significant that the Houthi militia has developed armed and student organisations loyal to it over the past five years, most notably the “foot police,” which seeks to restrict liberties at the university.

The monitoring of male and female students, the examination of their mobile phones, and other arbitrary procedures were all outlawed.

“Alumni Club” is a Houthi tactic used to stifle and limit pupils.
