An autopsy report made public today revealed that the Tennessee kindergarten teacher who authorities said was killed after being kidnapped during a dawn run had a gunshot wound to the head.
The West Tennessee Regional Forensic Center in Memphis conducted an autopsy on Eliza Fletcher, 34, who had a gunshot wound to the back of her skull, fractures in her jaw, and blunt-force injuries to her leg.
Fletcher was pulled into a car following a battle while running on the University of Memphis campus around 4 in the morning on September 2.
After a thorough police search that lasted more than three days, authorities claimed her body was discovered on September 5 behind an abandoned house.
First-degree murder and kidnapping are the charges brought against Cleotha Henderson in the case.
He hasn’t pleaded guilty, and his attorney has declined to comment.
Fletcher is a descendant of the late Joseph Orgill III, a philanthropist and businessman in the Memphis hardware industry.
The family of Fletcher wrote in a statement that they were “devastated and heartbroken by this senseless tragedy.”
