Eleven new countries elected to the IAEA Board of Governors

On Thursday, 11 new nations were chosen to serve on the 35-member Board of Governors of the International Atomic Energy Agency for the ensuing two years.

According to a press release from the organisation, the 66th General Conference of the International Atomic Energy Agency was where the elections took place. It listed the newly elected members of the Board of Governors as Brazil, Bulgaria, Costa Rica, Denmark, Kenya, Namibia, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Turkey, and Uruguay.

It is significant that the Board of Governors, along with the annual general conference of the Agency’s member nations, where the Board will convene next Monday to elect its officers, are the two decision-making bodies in the organisation.
It is notable that the 66th session of the General Conference of the Atomic Energy Agency, which took place in Vienna for 5 days, ends tomorrow, Friday. .
