Japanese Prime Minister and US Vice President discuss bilateral relations

After US Vice President Kamala Harris arrived in Tokyo on Monday to attend the official funeral of former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, Japanese Prime Minister Kishida Fumio spoke with her on the evolution of bilateral relations.
According to Japanese broadcaster NHK on Monday, Kishida informed Harris that his goal is to strengthen ties between the two nations, following in the footsteps of Abe, who was dedicated to fortifying the Japan-US partnership.

In order to further the freedom and openness that Abe has backed in the Indo-Pacific area, Kishida urged the vice president of the United States to join forces with him.
The United States and Japan’s alliance, according to Harris, is the cornerstone of the Indo-Pacific region’s peace, stability, and prosperity.

The Japanese Prime Minister is scheduled to meet with roughly 40 notable foreign figures over the course of three days, beginning today. In addition to Harris, Kishida also had a meeting with the president of Vietnam, Nguyen Suan Phuc, and nine other dignitaries today.

It should be emphasised that the former prime minister Shinzo Abe’s official funeral will be held in Nippon Budokan Square in the heart of Tokyo. Mr. Abe was shot dead on July 8 while giving an election campaign address in the western city of Nara. On Tuesday, it’s anticipated that 4,300 participants, both inside and outside of Japan, will attend.
