USAID: New Initiatives and Programs to Develop Fiscal Policies in Egypt

Leslie Reid, USAID’s Director in Egypt, stated that the Agency has been working with Egypt on several initiatives for four decades to promote development by building policies, improving governance, and boosting transparency and community communication.
She added that in the recent era, new initiatives and other separate government programmes, such as programme budgeting, performance, and others, have been focused on.

We are celebrating the triumph of the participatory budget today. She emphasised the need of constructing communication bridges with individuals of all categories in order to design policies that satisfy development goals and are based on community engagement.

The US Agency for International Development, according to Ola Al-Khawaja, Senior Adviser in the Macroeconomic Reform and Stability Project, provides all means of support for the Egyptian economic reform programme, particularly the participatory budget initiative, which effectively contributes to improving the efficiency of public financial management and public investments in Egypt.

She stated that the participatory budget is a concept that developed from the governorate of Alexandria following discussion and exchange of views and ideas with all social sectors in the several governorates; therefore helping to improve residents’ quality of life.
