Tunisian navy rescues 73 migrants from drowning

According to the Tunisian Navy’s Army of the Sea, on Friday, 73 illegal immigrants were saved from drowning off the coastlines of Djerba and Kelibia.
The Tunis Africa News Agency reports that four separate operations on the shores of Djerba and Kelibia were used to rescue the migrants, who included 24 women and an infant.
In Zarzis and Sfax, the navy troops turned over the migrants to the Tunisian National Guard.

The 1,300-kilometer-long Tunisian coast is where frequent efforts to stop illegal immigration are made; these efforts often intensify as the weather becomes better.
As Lampedusa is the nearest point to the Tunisian beaches, which are only around 80 kilometres away, dreamers migrating from Tunisia and Libya typically chose it as their first stop for their cruise.
