Russia condemns continued Israeli strikes on Syria

The Russian Foreign Ministry criticised the ongoing Israeli raids on Syria on Friday, warning that they might lead to a large-scale military escalation.
Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said in a statement on Friday that such reckless measures by Israel are utterly unacceptable and are strongly condemned.
According to Zakharova, the Israeli strikes are a gross breach of Syrian sovereignty and basic international law standards.

It may result in retaliatory acts and a large-scale military escalation, and we encourage Israel to halt its provocations towards neighbouring Syria and desist from any actions that put the whole area at danger of dire repercussions.

On August 31, the Israeli Air Force launched a missile strike on the international airport in the Syrian city of Aleppo, and later that day, Syrian air defences thwarted an Israeli attack in the skies over Damascus by dropping multiple missiles, causing material damage but no deaths.

In a statement issued yesterday, Thursday, Major General Oleg Egorov, Deputy Head of the Russian Reconciliation Center in Syria, stated that Israeli warplanes launched raids on facilities at the airports of Neirab (Aleppo) and Duvali (Damascus), resulting in the injury of five people and damage to the antenna centre of the Syrian missile system from S-125 and storage facilities for military-technical equipment.
