The head of the International Atomic Energy Agency upon his arrival in Ukraine: The situation is dangerous, but we will move forward (video)

Rafael Grossi, the chief of the International Atomic Energy Agency, stated that his team plans to continue with their mission despite the obstacles and hazards, the most recent of which occurred this morning.
Grossi stated that he is aware of the present situation, since there has been an increase in military activity, especially this morning, and added, “I was informed by the regional military commander on this,” and added, “But looking at the pros and disadvantages, we are not here to back down.”

But we’re moving forward now.
We know that there is a grey zone where the Ukrainian defence line finishes and the first line of Russian forces begins, and the risk appears to be quite considerable. At the same time, we have the bare minimum of mobility conditions, tolerating these hazards, according to Grossi.

Grossi emphasised that he and his team believed they could work on and complete their mission, which he described as extremely important, and added, “We will immediately begin to assess the security and safety situation at the nuclear plant as it currently exists, and we will communicate and consult with the plant’s staff.”

Noting that he would explore the prospect of establishing the International Atomic Energy Agency’s constant presence at the station, which he feels is essential for stabilising the situation and getting a frequent, trustworthy, complete, and impartial information on the situation there.

When the Director of the International Atomic Energy Agency arrived in Ukraine, he said, “The situation is perilous, but we will press on” (video)
