Despite strong pressure from China, a representative for the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights affirmed that the international agency will publish its report on human rights breaches in the Chinese region of Xinjiang.

According to Jeremy Lawrence, a spokesman for the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights, the report will be released by the end of the day.
Michelle Bachelet, the High Commissioner for Human Rights, will therefore fulfil her vow to publish this widely awaited document before her departure on the last day of her term.

Bachelet revealed to the Human Rights Council approximately a year ago that her office was working on a report on the situation in the Chinese region of Xinjiang, where Western countries and non-governmental groups accused Chinese authorities of holding over a million Uighurs in camps.

The UN will release its findings on China’s breaches in Xinjiang.
