A big fire broke out before dawn on Monday at an apartment in the Al-Quwairi neighbourhood of Al-Ajami, west of Alexandria Governorate, killing a man and his wife after they managed to save their children.
Khalil Ibrahim (36), and Walaa Jaber Ahmed (34), were murdered after successfully saving their three children from the midst of the fire by tossing them from one of the apartment windows and turning them over to neighbours.
According to local media, youngsters suffered a variety of injuries, including burns and fractures across the body.
The three youngsters, including a 7-month-old baby, were taken straight to Al-Ajami Hospital by ambulance. The mother was then discharged, but she died before getting at the hospital.
The father was also taken to the hospital by ambulance.
However, he was in critical condition due to his prolonged presence inside the blazing house, and he died a few minutes after being transported to the hospital.
As a result, the Civil Protection was able to put out the fire before it spread to the next flats.
Meanwhile, the Public Prosecution Service launched an immediate inquiry into the causes and circumstances of the incident on the fifth level.
