The worsening electricity supply crisis in Kosovo

The Kosovo Energy Distribution Corporation (KEDZ) has declared that the energy supply situation in Kosovo has intensified due to the collapse of the A3 unit of the Obilec thermal power plant.

The Balkan News Network, which focuses on Eastern European and Eurasian issues, reported the firm as stating in a Facebook post that The Transmission System Operating Company (Coast) ordered (Kidz) to impose emergency limitations on power due to the collapse of the (Coast) unit. A3) is in the system, which indicates that Kosovo is now producing less than 400 megawatts.

The company added that in the face of emergency restrictions, it will be very difficult to notify all consumers in a timely manner, as the current restrictions are two hours, asking all consumers to provide the maximum amount of electricity so as not to make the situation worse, as the use of electricity in moderation and efficiency means more electricity available for all consumers.

Kosovo is experiencing an electrical crisis as a result of the global energy crisis, as the small Balkan nation relies heavily on the development of coal-fired power plants due to its vast lignite deposits. Kosovo is projected to have the world’s fifth biggest lignite deposits, with up to 14 billion tonnes, however its thermal power facilities are antiquated and in continual need of repair.

Kosovo’s electrical supply situation is escalating.
