EU defense ministers are considering setting up a military training program for Ukraine

On Tuesday, the defence ministers of the European Union will gather in Prague to discuss developing a military training programme for Ukrainian troops.
At a recent university conference in Spain, Josep Borrell, the EU’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, who would preside over the discussions at the informal gathering, supported the notion of training the Ukrainian army as rational.

Six months ago, as part of broader conversations about military assistance during the early phases of the Russian offensive, EU foreign ministers discussed the possibility of giving Ukrainian forces military training.
The Czech Republic, a staunch backer of Ukraine, has assumed the rotating presidency of the European Union, which sets the bloc’s policy agenda and fundamentally alters the ground situation. As a result, the plan is now firmly on the table.

According to diplomatic sources, the European Union’s foreign ministers are prepared to publicly back ending a 2007 agreement that made it easier for Russians to obtain visas as a result of the Ukraine War.

The setting up of a military training programme for Ukraine is being considered by EU defence ministers.
