A former Ukrainian lawmaker who moved to the Russian camp was shot dead

A former Ukrainian lawmaker who travelled to the Russian camp in the Kherson region and supported Volodymyr Zelensky was shot and killed, according to Russian investigators, who made the announcement on Monday.
The Kherson region’s deputy director of the military and civil administration, Alexei Kovalev, who was in charge of agricultural matters, was shot and killed, according to a Telegram post by the Russian Investigative Committee.

The committee in charge of the major criminal cases in Russia noted that the incident took place on August 28 in his home. Additionally, a woman who was living with Kovalev perished.
Several Ukrainian officials in the Russian camp who were put in place by the Russians on Ukrainian territory they had taken have recently suffered injuries or deaths.
Alexei Kovalev, 33, joined President Volodymyr Zelensky’s faction in the Verkhovna Rada after being elected as a representative from the Kherson area in 2019.

He joined the occupation administration following the Kremlins’ onslaught at the end of February and the seizure of the Kherson region. He escaped an attempted murder at the end of June.
In order to prepare for their annexation, the Kremlin took control of the majority of the Kherson region and a portion of Zaporizhia. Moscow encouraged its citizens to apply for Russian passports and introduced the region to its national currency.

Shot dead was a former Ukrainian politician who had relocated to the Russian camp.
