Speaking on behalf of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova said that Russia will never forget that Kosovo is a crucial component of Serbia.
This was in response to Gabriel Escobar, the US deputy assistant secretary of state for European and Eurasian affairs, who asked that the topic of Kosovo and Serbia being parts of Europe be brought up instead of the notion that Kosovo is a part of Serbia.
When responding to this claim, Zakharova used the word never and included a picture of the Russian and Serbian flags to her Telegram post.
It is important to note that the situation in Kosovo deteriorated in late July as a result of the province’s authorities’ decision to impose restrictions on Serb movement, demand that they re-register their cars and adopt special identity cards to move between the province’s territory and the rest of Serbia, which sparked protests from the Serbian population. The province’s authorities had unilaterally declared its secession from Serbia.

The Kosovo authorities agreed to delay the implementation of its measures until September 1 in order to reduce further tension.
