According to the British daily The Guardian, Pope Francis is set to announce 20 new cardinals today, Saturday, from all across the world, and that these cardinals may one day be able to determine the Pope’s successor.
Because of his failing health, Pope Francis has suggested retirement, a road pursued by his predecessor, Benedict XVI. If he does, a secret gathering of all cardinals under the age of 80 will be convened to select a successor.

Based on their ages, sixteen of the twenty cardinals to be selected on Saturday will be eligible for this conclave.
