Taiwan: Determined to confront China again

Taiwan President Tsai Ing-wen increased the vehemence of her rhetoric and criticism of the Chinese authorities in a new chapter of the increasing tension between Beijing and Taiwan, which prompted US trips to the island.
She also emphasised that her nation will demonstrate to the rest of the world that its people are as determined and confident in their ability to defend peace, security, freedom, and prosperity.

It is significant that Taiwan successfully repelled the Chinese invasion in 1958 thanks to American assistance, which included the delivery of military hardware such Sidewinder advanced anti-aircraft missiles, which provided the island a technological edge at the time.
It was the last time Taiwanese soldiers engaged in widespread combat with Chinese forces and is frequently referred to as the second Taiwan Strait Crisis.

Although China has never dominated the island, Taiwan’s 23 million citizens alone have the power to decide its future, which is why the government of Taiwan emphasises the necessity for total independence.
The largest seller of armaments to Taiwan continues to be the United States, which ended formal diplomatic ties with Taipei in favour of Beijing in 1979.
