Russia condemns any military strikes in Syria

Given recent events in the north, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has stated that additional military actions in Syria are undesirable.
On Tuesday, during a joint news conference with his colleague, the regime’s Foreign Minister, Faisal Miqdad, Lavrov underlined that military operations in Syria would be unacceptable, referring to Turkey’s plans to conduct one in the country’s north.

From Moscow, the Russian minister also stated that Russia is working with the Syrian regime to avoid any fresh military action.
These events occurred as Mevlut Cavusoglu revealed on Tuesday that there is a genuine interaction between the Syrian regime and Turkey at the level of intelligence agencies.
He noted that there are no Turkish prerequisites for engagement with the government, emphasising the need of a substantive debate.

He also stated that intelligence is investigating the motivations behind the protests in Syria.
It is worth noting that Turkey has recently hinted at its determination to reestablish relations with the Damascus regime. In an interview with journalists last Friday, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan emphasised the need of everyone working together to find a lasting solution in Syria.
He also did not rule out communication and diplomacy with Syria’s authorities.

Ankara has supplied critical assistance to the political and military opposition in Syria since the crisis began in 2011.
Since 2016, it has undertaken three large-scale military operations in Syria, mostly targeting Kurdish militants, and its forces have managed to control a significant border area in northern Syria in collaboration with Syrian militias loyal to them.

It also hinted at a new military campaign in northern Syria against US-backed Kurdish rebels, whom it accuses of cooperating with the Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK), but this appears to have been withdrawn.

Russia opposes any military action in Syria.
