Dimitrov withdraws from Thiem’s win at Winston-Salem tennis

Grigor Dimitrov got a solid start against Dominic Thiem but failed, forcing the top seed to withdraw from the Winston-Salem Tennis Championships Wednesday night.
Bulgarian Dimitrov put in a superb effort less than a week before the start of the US Open, winning the opening set 6-0.
However, at a 2-2 tie in the second set, Dimitrov made multiple errors in an attempt to complete the points swiftly.

Dimitrov requested a treatment period and moved to serve while behind 4-2 before determining he would not be able to finish the match, and Thiem progressed to the next round.
Tim, the 2020 US Open winner, saved two first-round match chances against J. J. Wolfe of the United States.
Tim will face either Italian Fabio Fognini or British Jack Draper.
Previously, French Benjamin Ponzi, Australian Jason Kobler, and Americans Maxim Creasy and Steve Johnson advanced to the next round.

Dimitrov withdraws from Thiem’s victory in Winston-Salem.
