The UAE is first regionally and 26th globally in food security

A recent study conducted by the Abu Dhabi-based Interregional Center for Strategic Analyzes revealed the UAE’s regional superiority in the field of food security, with the country ranking first among the countries of the region and North Africa for the year 2022, and ranking 26th globally in the Deep Knowledge Foundation’s Global Food Security Index for 2022. The methodology of the index, which comprises around 171 nations, encompasses crucial characteristics such as food access, food flexibility, and the economy, in which the UAE has earned advanced points at the world level.
Based on the states’ interest in this file as a high priority in the aftermath of the worldwide Covid-19 outbreak, the Interregional Center investigation showed the most significant elements of strength in the UAE file connected to food security.

In this context, the UAE government launched the National Food Security Strategy in November 2018, with the goal of developing a comprehensive national system based on enabling sustainable food production, as well as defining the elements of the national food basket, which includes 18 main types, based on three main criteria: Knowledge Domestic consumption of the most significant items, manufacturing capacity, processing, and nutritional requirements.

In terms of food security, the UAE ranks first in the area and 26th internationally.
