The Sudanese Council of Ministers declares a state of emergency in the country

The Sudanese Council of Ministers announced a state of emergency in the country to deal with the disasters caused by heavy rains that hit six Sudanese states, killing and injuring over 100 people and demolishing thousands of dwellings.

The Sudanese Minister of Irrigation is due to attend a news conference at noon today, Monday, to discuss the effects of the floods and rainfall in Sudan in general, and in the city of Manaqil in central Sudan in particular, as it is the most impacted location.

Earlier, the official Sudanese Agency published a statement attributed to the Minister of Irrigation, in which he confirmed that the floods were caused by a mistake made by his administration, before the agency returned and withdrew the news, sparking widespread controversy and prompting calls for an investigation into the reality of the floods that swept the city of Al-Manaqil in this unprecedented way.

According to Sudanese Civil Defense, the torrential rains killed 79 people and wounded 30, in addition to completely destroying over 15,000 dwellings and partially destroying over 22,000 others.
