NATO has never represented a danger to Russia, according to Schulz.

According to German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, NATO does not pose a threat to Russia because the alliance and the United States accepted Russian President Vladimir Putin’s offer to begin an arms limitation debate.
In response to public questions during the Federal Chancellery’s Open Doors Day, Schulz declared that NATO has never posed a threat to Russia.

He stated that NATO and the US replied positively to Russian President Vladimir Putin’s desire to reopen discussions on arms control.
During his talks with Putin, Schulz remarked, “At one point, I informed Putin very plainly that the question of Ukraine’s accession to NATO is not on the agenda,” adding, “There were no justifiable justifications for the escalation of the current situation in Ukraine.”
The adviser indicated that Ukraine’s NATO membership is completely clear.

I had a good impression from my conversation with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, he added, adding that there could be a way to address the issue that would arise as a result of Ukraine’s prospective entrance to NATO.
