The UN: We are working hard to guarantee that Russian food reaches the market.

On Saturday, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres indicated that the UN is working with the US and the EU to remove restrictions that prevent Russian food and fertiliser from reaching global markets.
According to Guterres, more than 650,000 metric tonnes of grain and other food have already been sent as part of a United Nations programme.

-brokered agreement reached this month in Turkey to restore Ukrainian grain shipments, which had been halted since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in February.
The other component of this comprehensive agreement is unrestricted access to foreign markets for Russian food and fertiliser, which are not sanctioned, according to Guterres, who examined the export coordination centre in Istanbul.

He noted that states that have imposed sanctions on Russia for its invasion of Ukraine have made it clear that these measures do not apply to food and fertiliser, but that the impact on Russian exports is nevertheless enormous.
There are several bottlenecks and problems that must be overcome in terms of shipping, insurance, and money, said Guterres during a joint press conference with Turkish Defense Minister Hulusi Akar.

According to Guterres, the UN is working with Washington and the European Union to remove these obstacles.
More food and fertiliser from Ukraine and Russia, he added, are critical to calming commodity markets and decreasing consumer prices.
Russia and Ukraine accounted for around one-third of global wheat exports before to Russia’s February 24 invasion of Ukraine, which Russia asserts was a special military operation. Russia is also a major supplier of fertiliser.

According to media sources, French President Emmanuel Macron has asked Russian President Vladimir Putin to assure the security of Ukraine’s nuclear facilities.
brand-new military operation
Russia has launched a new military operation along the Russian-Ukrainian border, using high-precision missiles to target Ukraine’s military infrastructure, air defence, and air forces.
Russia stormed Ukraine’s border from Russia, Belarus, and Crimea, according to Ukrainian border guards.

Attacks with artillery and heavy equipment
According to Ukrainian border guards, artillery, heavy equipment, and small firearms were used to target border patrol troops and checkpoints.
Earlier, following a meeting of the National Security Council, Russian President Vladimir Putin proclaimed his country’s immediate recognition of the Donetsk and Lugansk republics’ independence from Ukraine, and called on the Russian parliament to approve the motion.

Referendum on the secession of Donetsk and Luhansk from Ukraine
Donetsk and Luhansk declared their independence on May 12, 2014, after a referendum in which the majority of the two provinces in the eastern Donbass basin voted in favour of separation from Ukraine.
Russia has assembled more than 100,000 troops on the Ukrainian border, prompting fears of an imminent invasion among the international community.
