MSC and Lufthansa make a deal to purchase 80 of Italy’s ETA.

A syndicate of investors led by container transport business MSC, according to a source. German airline Deutsche Lufthansa may pay 850 million euros ($853 million) for a stake in Italian carrier ETA.
According to El Messaggero, the business may try to buy 80 percent of ETA on Monday, with the objective of uniting MSC’s assets to develop a global leadership in freight and passenger transport. The magazine did not divulge the source of the information.

According to the publication, another business run by Sertaris Management of America for Travel and Tourism is offering 600 million to 650 million euros in exchange for 60 percent of ETA, with the remaining controlled by the Italian Ministry of Finance.
After a decade of failed attempts, a successful sale of ETA, the successor to the insolvent Italian national airline Alitalia, would be a significant win for interim Prime Minister Mario Draghi.
