An Iraqi is wanted in connection with the Speicher crime. Sabawi al-Hassan has been arrested in Lebanon.

Major General Abbas Ibrahim announced today, Friday, that the General Directorate of Lebanese Public Security had apprehended the wanted Iraqi Abdullah Yasser Sabawi al-Hassan (Sabawi’s grandson, Saddam Hussein’s brother), who was accused of the Tikrit Speicher crime and carrying out criminal operations that claimed the lives of thousands of innocent people.

Major General Ibrahim told Al-Iraqiya that the Lebanese security forces had signed an international Interpol memorandum, and that this was our commitment to our people in Iraq.

We work under the auspices of international law, the judiciary, and memoranda of exchange and recovery of wanted persons between countries, particularly a sister country like Iraq, he added, emphasising that his country rejects impunity and insists on the application of the law without interference or pressure.
