The death toll from China’s mountain floods has risen to 16.

On Thursday, the number of fatalities from China’s mountain flood calamity reached 16, and 36 more remain unaccounted for.
And, according to a statement made today by the Chinese news agency Xinhua, the mountain flood was brought on by an unexpected downpour in the northwest Chinese province of Qinghai that resulted in floods, mudslides, and river flow changes.

According to authorities, the county quickly triggered the second level of its emergency response system, the second highest of four levels, affecting a total of 6,245 people in six communities.
As part of the rescue and relief efforts, it was also announced that more than 2,000 personnel from the armed police, public security, emergency, health, and other agencies as well as more than 160 vehicles had been sent.

16 people have now died as a result of China’s mountain floods.
