Estonia withdraws from 16+1 formula in protest of China’s refusal to condemn Russia

In response to Beijing’s unwillingness to condemn Russia’s military action in Ukraine, Estonian Foreign Minister Urmas Ranzlo said that his country has resigned from the 16+1 international cooperation framework, which China heads.
Rinslo said in a statement to Bloomberg that Beijing’s unwillingness to condemn Russia’s military intervention in Ukraine was “certainly a component that we took into account when making the decision to withdraw.”

He went on to remark that the cooperative formula had no big political impact, and that his country would prefer to establish relations with Beijing through the European Union.
The 16 + 1 kind of collaboration is a sort of collaboration between China and East and Central European nations that is largely commercial, economic, and investment in nature, but also tackles cultural, tourist, research, and education concerns.

In response to China’s failure to censure Russia, Estonia has withdrawn from the 16+1 formula.
