Hungary and Poland oppose the European Union’s plan to reduce gas consumption

The Council of the European Union announced that “all delegations voted in favor of the Council’s rules on coordinated actions to reduce gas demand, except for the delegations of Hungary and Poland, who voted against.”

The Council confirmed that despite the opposition of the two mentioned countries, the majority supported the plan.

On July 20, the European Commission presented a plan to reduce gas consumption in the EU, and the energy ministers of the EU agreed on it, with some amendments being made to it.

It was agreed to voluntarily reduce gas consumption by 15% during the period between August 1 and March 31, compared to the average gas consumption during the last five years.

The European Union is taking these measures in anticipation of reducing or stopping gas supplies from Russia.
