On Tuesday, a day after Russian President Vladimir Putin declared victory in an eastern Ukrainian territory important to his military aims, his forces escalated their offensive in the neighbouring province, compelling the governor to order the urgent evacuation of people.
Gov. Pavlo Kyrylenko said the evacuation of the remaining 350,000 Donetsk inhabitants is critical to saving lives and allowing the Ukrainian army to effectively defend towns against the Russian attack.
“The Donetsk area will decide the fate of the entire country.”
“With fewer employees, we will be able to focus more on our adversary and accomplish our primary objectives.”
According to the Ukrainian president’s office, the Ukrainian military is still defending a small section of Luhansk in order to buy time before creating strongholds nearby.
