One of Muhammad Ali’s world boxing championship belts sold at auction for $6.18M

Ali died in 2016 at the age of 74 from septic shock and respiratory illness.His Hall of Fame boxing career, larger-than-life personality, and political involvement made him famous all over the world.He faced a who’s who of heavyweight greats during his peak in the 1960s and 1970s, taking part in some of the most memorable boxing matches of all time. Sonny Liston, Ken Norton, George Foreman, Ron Lyle, and Earnie Shavers were all defeated by him.

Ali is the only three-time lineal heavyweight world champion, having previously held and retained the WBC, The Ring, and WBA title belts.

The WBC belt he earned after knocking out Foreman in the classic “Rumble in the Jungle” fight in Zaire in 1974, sold for $6.18 million on Sunday.

According to Boxing Scene, Irsay’s memorabilia collection also contains other Ali-related items, like as the robe the fighter donned before his rematch against Liston in 1965.
